AUTC @ Hope Valley 5-a-side

AUTC went to Hope Valley on a bitterly cold evening last wednesday to take on the best mixed teams from Gawler, Hope Valley and City touch. We drove home premiers after a fun night of touch.

Coach Ninh gave the team a simple game plan: middle works hard to displace the opposition middle and then looks for switch or quickie options for the next phase. 8 touchdowns (to none) in the first 15 minute game confirmed that the game plan was going to work and the team took the confidence that was gained into the rest of the night. (AUTC d Grass Roots 17-0)

The teams got progressively tougher during the following matches; the second game and third game were against good opposition. Matt Jaques got himself very dirty diving about the place and Mel Johnson continued to put the ball over the score line. (AUTC d The Tokens 7-2; AUTC d Sponges 9-2)

The semi-final against the local favourite - NRG - saw AUTC grind its way to a win to set up a show down against 'that yellow team' - aka the team that beat us in the Winter City Touch Grand Final in 2009. (AUTC d NRG 4-1)

The first 8 minutes of the 10 minute first half of the grand final saw both teams defend well for the game to remain scoreless. AUTC scored 1 just before half time and the coach was pleased that we remained un-frustrated by the difficulty in scoring touch downs. The second half saw more of the same, AUTC scored a few more than the opposition to finish winners of the Competition 3-0 with Tahlia and Ninh scoring touchdowns.

Best players for AUTC over the night were Chris Sainsbury, Ninh Duong, Tahlia Christie and Mel Johnson. Mel and Chris both scored 5 touchdowns each over the night.

It was a fun night; Hope Valley need to be congratulated for the way they planned and ran the competition.

well done team!

It was an enjoyable evening of Touch, well done everyone!
