AUTC Womens Bees
With the majority of women playing their first year of touch and the competition starting to step up in comparison to previous years the team has their work cut out for them. Saying that, despite some big losses so far, the team continues to improve and am certain will make some massive inroads into those scorelines come the end of season.
Playing sport is not just about winning, its about enjoyment and improvement, personally and as a team and it has been good to see everyone keep positive no matter what has happened on the field.
Last night showed big improvements within our rucking, with 4 players starting to shine out in this regard. Kate, Siobahn, Cassie and Chrissie all at times did some fantastic evasive drives and found their half well, to ensure we had good consistent flow.
Rucking was often our strength and the majority of the time we used our six and made the distance of the field, some impressive work here girls so lets have more of it.
Steph O'Hara, who I think the other girls may secretly refer to as the saviour, made a number of desperate sprinting try saving touches. The next thing for Steph is getting her SNAPPING players with a change of direction from half runs. Then we will hit holes and TRY TIME !!!
The experienced head of the team showed her cool composure when confronted as a winger with 3 attackers, attacking her alone. Belinda executed perfect winger defence putting herself in the passing lane whilst positioning herself ready to chase out if the pass was made, needless to say they didn't score. It's good to see Belinda taking that leadership role and coming into her own within this side.
So in all we are improving. We have to concentrate on 10% improvements each week, that's my motto, and that adds up to 100 % in 10 weeks... I can count !!!! So let's work hard ladies and keep up the hard graft.

They were wet, they were muddy, they were cold, I was clean, I was warm and dry. It was a game of two halves with me trying to inspire some different style of play in the second half to the team's detriment. We absolutely dominated the first half with a 5-0 scoreline and the scoreline could have been much more. Every player was rotating through the wing, link and middle positions and everyone was hitting holes for each other. Our driving was controlled and players were beating their player and running into gaps.
We were scoring at will. Switches, wraps, two off passes to get around shooters, people driving when needed, people evading when the defence wasn't up in their face. We had great composure.
Second half we lacked the same composure we had in the first half and looked to set up scoring too early, sometimes within the first twenty metres driving off our line. Touch is about field position and not giving away that field position and unfortunately in the second half we did this.
This is best skilled AUTC B team I have seen for a while and there are a lot of great individual and team skills that we can work on for the rest of the season. There are some great long balls within the team which I am looking forward to developing.
With increased discipline this team can all, as individuals and as a team, perform extremely well. I look forward to seeing the team develop the rest of the season.
It was a good game, now let's back it up next week :
