AUTC A Match Report

Not too much jibber-jabber this week .. AUTC A is still keeping the
opposition at bay .. Although the opposition this past week seemed to
have a couple of quicker players that made our defence work
harder than usual .. Game one results 7-2 and game two results 6-1 ..

Game One:  Ninh 1, DJ 1, Marty 1, Roola 1, Tahlia 1, Latch 2 ..

A nice sprinkling of touch downs across the team .. Ninh's powerful
step and DJ's sweet long balls were standouts for this game ..

Game Two:  Ninh 2, Jo 1, Marty 1, Roola 1, Latch 1

Another good distribution of touch downs across the team .. I think
the tallies are right ?? .. If not then ..

AUTC C

Game 7

AUTC C versus Supa Calla Fricken Awesome. A solid game from the team, but unfortunately unable to convert from a number of well constructed plays. DY and Adam saved our backsides on a number of occasions in defense, and the team as a whole generally kept it together well. A satisfying game despite the loss.
Best: (M) Adam Potter, (F) Chantal Hadchiti. Touchdowns: Paul Smith (1). Final result: Loss (1 – 3).

Game 8

AUTC C versus Kaos - Club FC. The team lost the plot a little on this one. Pressure from opposition shooters and a strong defense disrupted the team's attack and we never quite regained our mojo. AUTC C defensive effort was strong as usual, but let down by a couple of lapses of concentration rather than skill errors.
Best: (M) Adam Potter, (F) Qin Chen. Final result: Loss (0 - 2).

AUTC Creams (D)

This week saw a showdown between the AUTC D and E teams. The Creams were down to minimal subs again this week with a few out sick or injured. But that didn’t stop us from playing a fantastic game, scoring 8 tries all up and keeping AUTC E to just 1. It was good to see the girls getting more involved this week with Kate getting some great yards in the rucking. Jen was aiming at great gaps on the line which drew defenders out and left holes in the defence for the boys to walk through.

Try scorers: Nick Purdam (2), Nick Pett (2), Andrew Cannella (4)
Best: Kate, for consistently getting the rucking going.

The second game of the evening was against Oil Blacks and was unfortunately played whilst I was running around on another field. Dutchy stepped in and played coach for me and from his cryptic scrawl I have deduced that the team won again, with Nick Pett adding a massive 4 more tries to his tally. It appears that the driving was again consistent and the gap hitting left room for scoring opportunities. Final score: 5 -1 our way.  Well done Creams!

Try scorers: Andrew Cannella (1), Nick Pett (4)
Best: Nick Purdam, for his clean hands and vision on the line.

AUTC E

Game 1: AUTC E vs AUTC D
Score: 1-8

Not even James Haddies apparent sugar high was enough to cover the D's speed out wide in this game.

The game was not without it's highlights though.
    • Christian loaded up on his left foot to step inside the defensive line to score a really good touchdown.
    • Kathleen worked really well off the ball and was always in the right position keeping momentum in our rucking and providing a few near-miss scoring opportunities out wide.
    • John's talk was really good in both attack and defense. His strategy of using real words seemed to work well.

Touchdowns: Christian (1)
Best Player: Kathleen, who revealed the dirty truth behind her somewhat saucy poledancing playing t-shirt.

Game 2: Draw Score 1-1

The big improvement in this game was the chase out defense.  Whereas in the previous game the opposition were running around the defense, this game everyone moved towards the wing where the ball was going. This allowed the wingers to cover their outside with confidence without having to worry about their inside (as the next player was there to help them out).  James was particularly good in this resepect.  The other thing that improved was that we were running off the ball in attack which spread the defense out more and gave the person with the ball more space to run into.

It was great to have Chrissie there for the first 2 games even though she had to rush off to a pop concert (sorry the band name means nothing to me - but I was assured that they are way cool).

While Joel and David took on their players well to create a number of scoring opportunities, the highlight of the game had to be John's effort, who after 10 minutes of diving practice with Ninh at Wednesday's training session, dived to score at the feet of the defense like he was a seasoned State-League player.

Touchdowns: John (1)
Best Player John

Game 3: Win 5-3

I was assured that we attacked the gaps outwide instead of stepping inside all of the time in this game.  Although the hesitant nod used to indicate that this was the case was reminiscent of that used by Danielle Toner when she assured me that she did not like Jeremy Butler after grade 9 gym class.  You better not be lying to me guys as I dont think that I can go through that again.

Scorers: David (3) James (1), John? (1)
Best player: David Cartland.
