AUTC selection policy

Posted in

Adelaide University Touch Club has two conflicting needs that arise when teams are being selected to represent the club at weekly touch club competitions. Players who wish to play at high levels and players who wish to play socially with people of their choosing. This selection policy has been written to cater for both of these groups of people.

This policy was adopted at the April 2010 committee meeting and may be reviewed from time to time.

1. Nomination and Inclusion.
Nominations will be called for by the committee for various competitions throuout the year. Members of the club are welcome to nominate to play in any of these competitions, and upon payment of the appropriate fee, every effort shall be made by the club to ensure that they are included in a team.
2. Selection Committee.
The club committee shall appoint a selection committee before each season who shall be responsible for selection of teams.
3. Nomination Form.
Accompanying the nomination will be a option for the player to choose 'competitive' or 'social' selection. Each player shall be able to pick either option. A non-selection of an option shall be treated as a 'competitive' selection.
4. Competitive Selection Policy.
Players who select the competitive selection option shall be ranked on current performance and selected according to their playing ability and team composition requirements.  A player selected under this scheme may be moved up or down teams in consultation with the coaches depending on on-field and off-field performance.
5. Social Selection Policy.
Players who select the 'social' option shall have the right to request to play with, (or not with) any member of the club that they choose.  Upon a similar request from the other player in question, every attempt to fulfill that request shall be made. These players shall be selected in conjuction with the competitive selection nominations, however, these players may be selected in a team below their own standard in order to fulfill the request. Requesting to play in the same team with any more than 2 other players is discouraged and such a request can only be met at absolute discression of the selection committee. Players selected under the 'social' selection policy can be moved up or down teams, provided their request is continued to be fulfilled.
