AUTC A
Game 1 vs Kaos
With two girls down, AUTC A needed to play an evening of smart touch. After taking a quarter to warm up, the team got things together and starting rucking the ball up nicely and moving it through the sets of hands.  AUTC combined well to walk away with a convincing win. Scorers: Latchy (2), Ninh (2), Marty (1), Roola (1), Ricki (1), DJ (1)

Game 2 vs AUTC B
AUTC B came out firing and made AUTC A bring out their best game to win. Jo and Ninh combined together perfectly to run some big switches into gaps in the middle, and ended the game with 5 touchdowns between them. AUTC A drove the ball up the field well, and worked things from wing to wing opening up a few gaps in AUTC Bs defence. Scorers: Jo (2), Ninh (3), Latchy (1), Marty (1)

AUTC B

Game 1 vs Dodgers
The result some what surprisingly at the end of the game was a draw cause it felt like we where a few touchdowns up.  Good running play that should have resulted in a win over the Dogers let down by inconsistencies in short side defence which allowed the Dodgers to keep in the game.(Email Jeff with the touch down scorers if you have them)

Game 2 vs AUTC A, result was always going to be in the AUTC A's favour.  Oh the whole the short side defence was improved over the 1st game but the significantly stronger attack of the AUTC A's where able to create and exploit gaps.  Unfortunately the off the line and mid field rucking decreased for a chunk of the game however in the last couple of minutes a nice combination of play by Richard and Spurlo put the right mark on the scorecard. Spurlo (1).

AUTC C

Game 3

AUTC C came up against FU for what was a high intensity game. A good team effort to convert two scoring opportunities, but not enough to keep up with the talented FU’s speed and agility. Despite the loss, the team performed well, with hints of good things to come for the rest of the season. Best: Qin Chen, Simon Derrick Roberts. Touchdowns: Qin Chen (1), Paul Smith (1). Final result: Loss (2 – 4).

Game 4

AUTC C took on Las Naranjas and were looking threatening from the beginning. Five minutes into the game AUTC C enacted a brilliant hands-down-the-line touchdown, capitalising on an overlap cunningly created by having six players on the field – which the opposition helpfully pointed out to Referee Phil. Qin was on fire with her usual brand of scrambling defence (“if I throw myself at the opposition, some part of my body will touch them!?”), and managed to narrowly avoid concussion again this round. Kudos to Adam, DY and Ainslie for solid defence and good talk on the field. In the end, an awesome defensive effort on the line was let down by a lacklustre effort in the midfield both in attack and defence – with the team generally not switched on and the guys getting just a little too frantic at times. Best: Qin Chen, Adam Potter. Disallowed touchdowns: Chantal Hadchiti (0). Final result: Loss (0 - 1).

AUTC Creams (D)

Game 1: vs Supa Calla Fricken Awesome = 3-2 their way.
Game 2: vs Kwak Attack = 11-0 their way.

Last night the newly dubbed Creams had a couple of tougher opponents than the previous week. We introduced the sliding defence concept which improved throughout the first game, as reflected in the close score line. The rucking was a bit flat this week, which meant less scoring opportunities than we could have had. But there were a few close calls on the line for us where we were unlucky not to score, Nick Purdam in particular was hitting some great holes.

Our aim in the second game was No Scores around the outside. Unfortunately we came up against GT’s Kwak Attacks who proved to be more than a match for our defence. It was definitely a great chance for the team to learn what good rucking looks like though as the opposition rucked hard and fast and most of their tries came by running through on the third or fourth touch. We will keep working on this sliding defence and next week it should start to click a bit more. The key is TALK TALK TALK!!!

Keep your heads up Creams, next week’s a new week.

Best game 1: Renee, great rucking, great hands!
Best game 2: Nick Purdam, chased hard in defence, didn’t give up!
Try scorers: Andrew Cannella (1), Nick Purdam (1)
