 AUTC A:

Game 1:
In Game 1 AUTC A brushed off the cob webs against the Dragons. It was a tight start to the game, the team defended solidly but had difficulty to break through to score. Roola had a slow start to the season,  but thanks to the solid efforts of the rest of the team, AUTC came away with a 4-1 win. Best: In typical committee style no decision could be made. Touchdowns: Roola (4)

Game 2:
Disappointed from the lack of scores in game one, AUTC A came out firing to game 2 against the Uni SA Emu’s. The 5-a-side game plan was solidly implemented with some spectacular switches to create scoring opportunities. Latchy, Marty and Ninh showed who was boss scoring 3 touchdowns each, and Roola did his best to keep up with 2.
Best: The committee is still deliberating. Touchdowns: Latchy (3), Marty (3), Ninh (3), Roola (2)

AUTC B

Game one saw two Universities face-off, with the ever dominant AU once again downing the University of South Australia.  AU exploited their weaknesses through some strong driving by the whole team and providing plenty of options across the ground.  Latent energy from the many weeks off was evident with, everyone eager to show their stuff.  AU’s defence was brilliant allowing only 1 try to be scored against them and spending a good 80% of the time in AU’s attacking half (although remember 72% of statistics are made up on the spot).  [ADD IN TRY SCORERS HERE]

Game two:  The opposition made a request at the outset that they were able to play with 5 guys ONLY, as they had no female players.  We agreed, as little did they realise that our girls would be our biggest asset in this game.  Settling the team down, and setting up play, allowing some of the fast boys to…well, umm run fast.  This resulted in a very even spread of try scorers and a very fluid feeling to the team.  Again, as with the first game the width provided by the wings provided gaps all across the field.  AUTC B will be a team to be reckoned with.  Final score was _______  .

AUTC C

Game 1

AUTC C played Nukflukchukbuk in Game 1. Nukflukchukbuk were awarded an early three touchdowns for their imaginative team name, however AUTC C took out the game 6-3 in the end thanks to a solid team effort in both attack and defence. Best: Adam Potter, Ainslie Derrick Roberts . Touchdowns: Paul Smith (3), Simon Derrick Roberts (1), Paul Malyschko (1),Ainslie Derrick Roberts (1).

Game 2

AUTC C played Can't Catch Patch in a tight match. Despite letting a few opportunities slip through our fingers on the line, the team came away with a draw (2-2) against a quality opposition. The team's strong defence held up well against an opposition with a number of zippy and clever players. Best: Adam Potter, Belinda Gibson. Touchdowns: Simon Derrick Roberts (1), Paul Smith (1).

AUTC D

Game 1: vs UNISA score = 7 – 4 our way.

Game 2: vs Charlatans score = 5 – 3 their way.

I’m pleased to report that AUTC D soldiered through having the most boring team name in history to win their inaugural match! I was pleased to see everyone out at the game early, ready to warm up and get a badly fashioned number taped to their backs. Our focus was rucking which the entire team did superbly, getting the ball out of our half consistently and holding the ball for sets of 6. We had few dropped balls, Renee in particular held on to some impressive ones.

Defensively the team did quite well considering we haven’t looked at this aspect of the game at all yet. There was plenty of talk, with the more experienced players helping out the newbies. Sam did a great job of coming up on the long side to shut down the opposition. I expect our defence will be almost impenetrable once we’ve worked on some tactics at trainings over the next few weeks.

Stand out try scorer this week was Andrew, who blasted through some great holes in the defence and showed great vision in picking his moments. The team has great speed and agility and shows great try scoring promise. Best try for me was Caleb’s run from half with Andrew backing him up to put it down. Great work ladies and gents, looking forward to next week!

Best: Andrew Cannella

Touchdowns: Andrew Cannella (5), Nick Pett (4), Caleb Lilley (1)

AUTC E (this week the letter E stands for Excited)

Game 1

Played: Junkies with monkey disease

First touch game ever for most of the team. Great talk from James (started touch last year) gave the team some direction. Thanks to Jeff for coaching before Swifty and Roola were able to get there. The team worked on rucking and staying wide to create a gap for Joel to score.

Result: lost 1 - 3

Best: James Haddy (nice talk and direction)

Touchdowns: Joel Carr

Game 2

Played: The Untouchables Again

Talk from the whole team improved this game. While the numbers on the back of the shirts may have been turning into symbols the team worked on getting wide and staying deep so they could see what it was on the back of their team mates back. Special mention to ‘pie’ – I think she takes the cake for best number!

Result: lost 0 - 2

Best: Kathleen (great talk and re-aligning)

Touchdowns: NA

Game 3

Played: Oil Blacks

After a game break it was time to put into practice the passing and wrapping skills worked on during the break. It was great to see everyone talking more and looking to wrap as an option. There was also an improvement in getting someone into half. A awesome run for half the length of the field saw Joel score again!

Result: lost 1 - 4

Best: Joel Carr (great gap hitting)

Touchdowns: Joel Carr
