On a cold and chilly evening the Mens B team ventured out for their first game in the C grade against Gregan Grogans women, who hosted two women who have played multiple NTLs and an ex under 18s NSW rep. So the opposition had some touch prowess amongst their ranks. The first five minutes was shakey and our defence was scrambling here there and everywhere before finally getting some composure and toughening up the touches to impede the oppositions half running. We let a try in within this time and I could tell the lads were a bit nervy. Then we started to play our game, getting some good go forward, using our speed advantage to get them on the back foot, making good ground in rucking ensuring they would only have one or two touches on the line to try score.
The second half saw a more composed effort and created a couple of tries from good solid rucking, hitting gaps with good timing and running through. Until then we had scored mostly from half running, something which will prove much more difficult when playing against guys with similar speed.
Anyway a win is a win and hopefully this will be the start of a big winning streak. You could see that stepping down the division allowed our less experienced players time to work things out.
