Beach Touch 2008

Posted in

Sun, sand, fun and plenty of touchdowns was the order of the day as the Adelaide University Touch Club held their annual beach touch competition at Henley Beach on the Australia Day holiday.

A faster and more frenetic version of the increasingly popular social sport, beach touch pits 3 attackers against 2 defenders ensuring a high scoring game with plenty of dives as teams try desperately to make touchdowns and defend their score line.

Rivalry was just as intense off the field as on. The struggle for the best dressed prize was hotly contested, with lifesavers, men in netball skirts, superheros, and Winston Churchill all fighting for the trophy.

On the field Marty Green’s Baywatch Experience took out the male division, winning the final 20-10, whilst team Smiles, lead by Captain Hayley Terrett, succeeded in the women’s section.

Terrett said that it was her first time playing beach touch but that she would be back next year.

“It was a great day,” she said.

“We had a couple of teams in the competition, and all had a heap of fun.”

Current AUTC member Ryan Causby also had a satisfying time.

“Beer, beach and of course touch, what more could you ask for?” said Causby, whose team was defeated in the semi-finals.

Organiser and AUTC President Jeffery Dutschke said he was very pleased with how smoothly the day had run and preparations were already being put in place for next year’s competition.
